KISS THE ANUS OF A BLACK CAT

+ THALAMUSPROJECT

Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat (KTAOABC) is the musical project of Belgian songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Stef Heeren. Founded in Ghent, Belgium, in the early 2000s, the band first emerged with a dark and hypnotic approach to psychedelic folk—blending droning harmoniums, acoustic guitars, ritualistic percussion and Heeren’s distinctive voice into a unique sound inspired by the free folk and post-rock movements of the time.

Through their early albums If the Sky Falls, We Shall Catch Larks (2005), An Interlude to the Outermost (2007) and The Nebulous Dreams (2008), KTAOABC developed a cult following within the alternative music scene. With the release of Hewers of Wood and Drawers of Water in 2010—often considered their finest album—the band further refined their hypnotic folk into more defined song structures.

In the following years, Heeren’s group gradually expanded its sonic palette, moving toward more electronic textures and post-punk influences. Stef’s voice and the project’s dark psychedelic sound remained at the core, as heard on Weltuntergangsstimmung (2012) and To Live Vicariously (2015).

Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat celebrates 15 years of Hewers of Wood and Drawers of Water

After a period of hiatus, Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat returns with a series of special reunion concerts featuring its original folk ensemble to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the acclaimed album Hewers of Wood and Drawers of WaterFrom ECHO.lu. The first vinyl (and CD) pressing of the album, released in 2011, has long been sold out and now fetches high prices on the second-hand market.

To mark the anniversary, the album will be reissued in early 2026 as a limited-edition vinyl release on KTAOABC’s own label, Kattengat. With this reissue on the horizon, Kiss the Anus of a Black Cat is eager to return to the stage, revisit its folk roots and perform the songs that defined its early years.

These concerts will not only celebrate Hewers of Wood and Drawers of Water, but will also explore the full scope of the band’s career—from its folk beginnings to its later, more modern and electronic explorations.
