In Arabic culture, the tarab is a state of spiritual exhilaration induced by songs and music, a trance brought on by excess stimulation of the aesthetic sensibility. In flamenco, the tarab becomes the duende: the ecstatic flow between the guitar and the song, between the musicians and the dancer, between the performers and the audience. The singer Miguel Lavi, a major name in songs performed for dance (and someone the aficionados of FlamencoFestival Esch know well), accompanied by David Caro, a guitarist who is more and more in demand, and the unequalled percussionist Roberto Jaén, will conjure up the duende, so that Cristina Aguilera can transport us all to the tarab.
Cristina Aguilera has been dancing from the age of 8. In 2010, she completed her studies of Spanish dance and flamenco at the Carmen Amaya Conservatory of Professional Dance in Madrid. In 2015, she presented her first show in Grenada. Since then, she has taken part in numerous festivals and productions with the foremost companies in flamenco dance. In 2016, Cristina Aguilera presented her second show, “Corazón abierto”, at the 20thSevilla Bienal de Flamenco, to be followed by “Granada” (with Alba Heredia) in 2017 and “De agua, plata y tierra” in 2018, with which she toured nationally and internationally. “Tarab” is her latest show, which was premièred in Madrid in November 2019.
