This projection is part of the Body/Land cycle: This cycle brings together two films that begin with the things closest to us – family, bodies and everyday landscapes – before opening up to wider themes such as ancestral memory, ecology and colonial history. What connects a devastated forest in Chile with a queer body in Mexico? The same extractivist, colonial violence that shapes the narratives and the hierarchies of living beings.

Blending documentary, essay and performance, Green Desert and Our Body is an Expanding Star reveal the hidden links between damaged landscapes and wounded bodies through simple yet powerful actions: walking, filming, dancing and remembering.

This diptych aims to encourage the audience to reflect on how memories are passed on and lost, and how art and viewers can promote collective forms of care.

Our Body is an Expanding Star

Directed by Semilites Hernández Velasco & Tania Hernández Velasco

Mexico, 2025, produced by Tania Hernández Velasco for unahojacae and Viana González for Autonauta Films

Original version, English subtitles

“Our Body Is an Expanding Star” is a poetic film that intertwines nature, family memory, and identity. Through evocative imagery, siblings Semillites and Tania explore their queer bodies, shared heritage, and deep bond. By connecting skin to landscapes and personal transformation to the cycles of nature, the film follows Semillites’ transition through the metaphor of a growing seed. This intimate and collective journey offers a new understanding of identity beyond colonial narratives.
