Essentials for digital art, performances and interactive installationsThis demo session introduces advanced applications of TouchDesigner within the context of digital art, performances, and interactive installations. Led by artist and expert trainer Nima Gazestani, participants will explore real-world creative uses of the software through the lens of his professional artistic practice.
During the 3-hour demo, Nima Gazestani will present real projects developed with TouchDesigner, focusing on:
- Sound-reactive visuals for live music performances
- Interactive lighting control using DMX
- Real-time visuals for architectural video mapping
- Use of 3D scanning and point clouds in audiovisual and media production
Each topic will be demonstrated through project examples, workflows, and live TouchDesigner setups, allowing participants to gain insight into both creative and technical processes. By the end of the masterclass, participants can be expected to:
- Understand the creative possibilities of TouchDesigner in live performance, installation, and media production contexts
- Recognise how sound, light, and data (e.g. point clouds and scans) can be integrated into real-time visual systems
- Gain an overview of the typical workflow behind interactive and generative visual projects
- Identify potential use cases of TouchDesigner within their own artistic or professional practice
- Develop inspiration and conceptual ideas for future projects using real-time interactive media

Lecturer at NABA – Domus Academy – IUAV – The Node Institute
Nima Gazestani is an interaction designer, specializing in visual arts and an expert in creative technology. He has worked for brands and companies such as Flos, Ferrari, Tod's, Moleskine, Steinway & Sons, SkyArte, Novartis, Netflix, Toyota, and many others. He develops physical digital projects for interactive exhibitions and scenographic solutions aimed at enriching visitor experiences through media.
He previously worked in education as Course Leader of the Master in Interaction Design at Domus Academy and currently teaches at Italian and European design academies. His interest in new technologies, combined with a deep knowledge of design, allows him to generate interesting and unique design and experiential solutions.
