Programme

In 2020, in the midst of a global pandemic, the Kulturfabrik team was more determined than ever to support the local arts scene and the result was Squatfabrik: a programme of short artist residencies. Due to its great success, the project has become a permanent fixture in the Kufa calendar and is back for a fifth edition in May 2024. Four artist duos (always made up of a local artist and a European artist) will be in residence at Kufa between May and November 2024. The second duo, or rather trio, of artists in this fifth edition is made up of Lisa Kohl (LU) & Miguel C. Tavares and José Gomes (PT). 

Their Get-Out (held at the end of each residency) will take place on Friday 21 June (6-9pm). You can meet the artists, discuss their projects and their residency over a drink provided by the Kufa.

Nadina Faljic, cultural mediator, will give a talk in English on the work of the SQUATFABRIK artists.

The artists present are :

• Lisa Kohl (LU)

Lisa Kohl (*1988) lives and works between Luxembourg and Germany. A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels - La Cambre, Brussels (BE), Lisa Kohl has developed an artistic practice that takes a variety of forms: digital media, spatial installations, field research, documentation, staging, narrative and visual poetry. Her artistic investigations revolve around the ephemeral, the absent and the imaginary. The aesthetic phenomena of absence, migration and situation play a central role in her work.

• Miguel C. Tavares and José Gomes (PT)

Miguel C. Tavares (filmmaker) and José Alberto Gomes (sound artist) have been working together since 2011, when they met while making the short film Ínsua. Since then, their work has regularly been transformed into audiovisual works. The duo have explored the various potentialities of this universe, which ranges from cinematographic to installation and performative. Their shared portfolio includes the exploration of more classical objects such as documentaries, more auteur hybrid spaces in which the relationship between sound and image is not so hierarchical, the world of video art, and performative contexts such as concert films, music and visuals.
